Rathbone Market Canning Town is a flagship mixed-use development located in East London, alongside one of London’s oldest street markets dating back to 1253. It was developed by The English Cities Fund in partnership with the London borough of Newham between 2010 and 2017.
The 63,000 sqm development cost £200m to build and significantly contributed to the area’s regeneration. Rathbone Market includes residential units, as well as retail spaces, a library, two public squares, and various community spaces. It also has a public underpass that connects the development to the nearby Underground station.
Rathbone Market was developed in three stages – Phase 1– Vermillion, Phase 2 – Aurelia, Phase 3 – Lumire, and won several design awards. Out of a total of 651 residential units, 163 affordable homes were delivered for Notting Hill Genesis Housing Group. In addition, 194 Build to Rent homes were delivered for Fizzy Living and LaSalle Investment Management.
